Xpansiv’s North American Renewables Registry Issues Texas’ First Hourly RECs

NEW YORK, LONDON, SYDNEY — July 7, 2026 — Xpansiv, the leading infrastructure provider for the global energy transition markets, today announced it has successfully issued hourly renewable energy certificates (RECs) in its North American Renewables Registry (NAR) for two solar projects totaling more than 600 MW located in Texas. These are the first hourly RECs ever issued in Texas.

Growing demand for hourly carbon-free energy is prompting organizations to seek tools that align clean electricity consumption with generation on an hour-by-hour basis. This shift is being driven by a combination of voluntary frameworks, including the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), emerging regulatory measures such as the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), as well as broader corporate sustainability commitments.

“This milestone is an exciting development, as it opens new opportunities to expand project registrations in Texas, and across all regions in North America,” said Katherine Doyle, Senior Vice President, Registries at Xpansiv. “By enabling the acceptance and upload of hourly meter data from within any time zone, this enhancement significantly broadens the reach and flexibility of our hourly REC program.”

NAR pioneered hourly REC tracking in 2022 and has issued more than 22 million hourly RECs to date. Throughout 2026, Xpansiv is strengthening this program via a number of system enhancements, including database infrastructure upgrades to streamline generation reporting and credit issuance capabilities and an updated front-end experience to enable users to opt into the hourly program more easily.

Overall, NAR tracks nearly 100 GW of renewable generating assets in more than two dozen US states and territories as well as three Canadian provinces across both its monthly and hourly programs.

In 2025, Xpansiv was among the first awardees of the LevelTen Registry Acceleration Fund, backed by the Granular Certificate Trading Alliance. The award was to expand hourly REC functionality across Xpansiv’s proprietary REC registries, including NAR, and to facilitate hourly REC transactions within the Xpansiv Connect multi-registry portfolio management system.
