Yes, an organization can register as both a Registrant and a Participant.

You need to submit the following information with your application:

• A completed, signed and dated copy of the Standard Terms and Conditions which will be sent to you for electronic signature. Please note that the Standard Terms and Conditions differ for Registrants and Participants. If your organization wishes to become both a Registrant and a Participant, we require completed, signed and dated copies of both.
• A completed, signed and dated copy of the I-REC(E)s Registry Application Form for Registrants and Participants.
• Copy of company accounts dated within the last 12 months (e.g. copies of the Profit & Loss Statement or Balance Sheet).
• For corporate bodies: proof of company registration number (e.g. a copy of the Certificate of Incorporation).
• For private individuals: a photocopy of the applicant’s passport.

No. The I-REC market operates on a non-discriminatory basis so that all Registrants and Participants trade on equal terms.

No. Market players require a robust energy attribute certificate (EAC) system that adheres to international best practices to enable them to make trustworthy energy claims. These instruments are provided by market facilitators, who are in return dependent on the use of these instruments to continue their facilitation of the market. The International Tracking Standard Foundation provides and requires a level playing field for all market players and guarantees a fair and competitive market. This means that all Participants and Registrants pay the same fees for the same services.

No. You can use an I-REC(E) trader that is an existing Participant if you wish. Alternatively, you can become a Participant and buy directly from the market.

Production Facilities are registered for an initial period of 5 years. At the end of the 5-year period, your Issuer will contact you to provide you with the opportunity to renew the device for a further 5 years. Yes. When registering a wind farm, we require a spreadsheet containing the coordinates for each turbine within the wind farm to be uploaded with the supporting documents.

The first day of eligible production may be backdated to the Facility’s commissioning date. However, eligibility is limited by the applicable Residual Mix Deadline issuing period.

No. An I-REC(E) is a statement of an historical fact and is issued against proof of generation from a specific source at a specific time. A future delivery cannot be guaranteed by any Issuer.

No. But please be aware that if you submit an Issue Request which is dated for a full month, but you only want to claim for half of the month, you will not be able to claim the balance at a later date. For example, if you had eligible production of 1000 MWh for 1 May – 31 May but you only wanted to claim 600 MWh, you could submit an issue request for 1 May to 19 May. You would then have the option to claim the remaining 400 MWh using the date range 20 May – 31 May.

Issue Requests for January-June must be submitted by 31 May the following year. Issue Requests for July-December must be submitted by 30 September the following year.

It is not possible for you to retain the right to obtain emissions reduction certificates or carbon credits as well as claim I-REC(E)s for the energy nominated in an Issue Request. An I-REC(E) is a factual statement of an electricity production event. Such events may also contribute to a reduction in global emissions against a business-as-usual case. An I-REC(E) cannot be issued without inclusion of any avoided emissions, carbon credits, or similar market instrument that might be available to the registrant or device owner. When submitting an Issue Request for an I-REC(E), you must confirm that you hold the right to any such avoided emissions, carbon credits, or similar market instruments and that you irrevocably assign such rights within each issued I-REC(E). Each I-REC(E) will carry an identifier throughout its life that it includes the right to any such avoided emissions, carbon credits, or similar market instruments, which will be visible to I-REC(E) Participants.

No. It is not possible to submit Issue Requests that cross the end of a calendar year.

Yes. We support issuing, transfer, and redemption at the Wh (watt-hour) level. (A watt-hour is 0.000001 of a megawatt-hour). This means you can submit Issue Requests in increments of 0.000001 MWh.

Please note that the redemption of an I-REC(E) marks the end of its transferrable lifecycle. Once redeemed, an I-REC(E) can no longer be transferred. Therefore, please check the details carefully when making redemption requests, as the process is irreversible.

You may choose any reporting dates on a redemption statement. For example, it is possible to report from 1 December 2026 to 31 December 2027. However, it is up to the End User (beneficiary) and any organization to which they may report to determine which certificates may be acceptable for any given time period.

No. It is not possible for Participants to reverse the process, so we recommend that you check the details at all stages of the process. The I-REC Registry also provides warning messages throughout the redemption process and allows users to preview the statement before completing the process. For example, you will see the following message at the approval stage:

Warning: This process cannot be undone so please check the details carefully before continuing.

No. Once created (i.e., by selecting ‘Submit’ on the ‘Add new Beneficiary’ screen of the I-REC Registry), it cannot be modified. If a Beneficiary is no longer required, it should be marked as inactive. No. You do not need to add the country to the Location field, as the country should be selected from the ‘Country’ dropdown box. The Location field should contain the building number, street name, city/town or state, and the zip/postal code.
